In a guest article Prof. Rüland explains that the existing Asian Inter-Parliamentary Assembly (AIPA) is merely "a façade of legitimacy" vested with very few rights and meeting only once a year. He argues that ASEAN's decision impact a large part of the Southeast Asian population and therefore the organization needs to "become more inclusive and accountable". In his opinion, one way to achieve this would be a reform of AIPA that would make the parliament more representative and powerful.
