Prof. Rüland contributes to the GR:EEN Workshop on EU foreign policy at the Free University of Brussels
On 17 and 18 October, Prof. Jürgen Rüland will present a paper at the conference supported by the research project "Global Re-ordering: Evolution through European Networks"
His paper on "The Unintended Consequences of Interregional Capacity-Building: Normative and Conceptual Misunderstandings in EU-ASEAN Relations" will be presented on 17 October.
The workshop will primarily contribute to the first line of enquiry, while remaining open to empirical insights into specific policy fields. It will seek to broach the two faced puzzle born from the growing number of regions and their heightened interactions: What role can regions and their mutual interactions come to play in a multipolar world? And which role can the regional dimension occupy in the EU's external action toolkit?
Overall, the workshops's goal is to bridge the gap between "EU external action" and Comparative Regionalism" literatures and delve in more detail into the impact of the EU's Foreign Policy on the evolution of multiple forms of regionalisms in other parts of the world.
