Lecture | FRIAS Colloquium with Stefan Rother on 1 December
On 1 December from 11.15 - 12.45, Stefan Rother will lead a colloquium on the topic of his current research on "Indonesian migrant domestic workers in transnational political space(s): agency, gender roles and social class formation."
The colloquium takes place as a part of Mr. Rother's junior fellowship at the Freiburg Institute for Advanced Studies (FRIAS) as a part of the FRIAS research focus "Strategic Alignments and Dealignments in Global Southeast Asia". The colloquium will take place at the FRIAS Seminarraum at Albertstr. 19. There is also an optional Lunch Buffet at FRIAS following the colloquium (6€, Students 4€). Reservations are obligatory and need to be made latest the day before by contacting info@frias.uni-freiburg.de.
The research focus examines how global flows and challenges impact on the actors, patterns and processes that drive social and institutional alignments and dealignments in a strategically important, economically vibrant and politically volatile region. It explores at different organizational levels – international, national, local – and from an interdisciplinary perspective how cultures of cooperation are negotiated and in which way the changing encounters and narrative alignments between nations as well as diverse ethnic, economic, religious, political and professional groups are framed. The focus, involving Sociocultural Anthropology, Political Science, Economics and East Asian History complements an established, successfully evaluated, internationally highly visible research cluster at the university, which constitutes an important component of the Center for transcultural Asian Studies.
