— filed under:

The Implementation Guide for the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) aims to provide guidance to policymakers from developing countries on adapting their national planning and implementation strategies to the SDGs and on creating an institutional structure suitable to financing and attaining the SDGs in any given thematic area.

The publication introduces a step-by-step process that countries may follow in order to mainstream SDGs into their national policy documents and institutional structures.

This step-by-step process is based on an extensive number of case studies and hands-on experience in a series of ENVForum workshops focusing on SDG implementation. Nine selected illustrative case studies are also contained in the publication, highlighting the strategies countries have followed in customising the SDGs to their national policy frameworks, setting up implementation and monitoring institutions and financing the SDGs.

The guide provides clear and concrete guidance on a range of issues facing decision-makers in the process of mainstreaming and implementing the SDGs. Among other things, it addresses how to compare SDG targets and national policies, how to assess priorities and capacities, and how to monitor performance indicators.
