Computer Lab Sessions

Two participants might have to work with one computer. You could also bring your own laptop if you prefer to work alone. A 30-day demo version of MAXQDA is available on their website: http://www.maxqda.de/downloads/demo.

 

Seminar Outline

30th May 2011

9:00 – 11:00

  • Introduction – Overview and Introduction of Participants
  • Overview of qualitative data analysis methods

BREAK

11:15 - 12:00

  • Coding a basic principle of analysis
  • Coding exercise (paper & pencil)

LUNCH

13:00 - 14:45

  • Coding exercise (paper & pencil)
  • Introduction to the computer-assisted data analysis NCT model of analysis

BREAK

15:15 - 17:00

  • Hands-on introduction to MAXQDA, a software for computer-assisted analysis
  • Project- and data management
     

31th May 2011

9:00 – 10:30

  • Coding with MAXQDA
  • Discussion of coding exercise

BREAK

10:45- 12:00

  • Principals and good practices of grounded theory analysis

LUNCH

13:00 - 14:45

  • Hands-on MAXQDA
  • Writing memos and further data analysis
  • Lexical search and automatic coding

BREAK

15:15 - 17:00

  • Further tools for analysis (presentation or hands-on)
  • Code-Matrix-Browser
  • Code-Relation-Browser
  • Complex retrieval options

 

 

Where?

We will have to  change rooms several times. THE EXACT TIMING WHEN WE SWITCH FROM COMPUTER LAB TO SEMINAR ROOMS STILL HAS TO BE WORKED OUT. THE PARTICIPANTS WILL BE INFORMED AS SOON AS THERE IS A FIXED SCHEDULE. 

  • Monday 9am-2:45pm:  Bismarckallee 22 - Raum 3
  • Monday 3:15pm, Tuesday morning and afternoon until 4pm: Computer lab UB 2, Room 100-101
  • Tuesday evening 4-5 pm: KG IV 4429
