CFP | Annual Conference PhD Network Indonesia 2012 (Göttingen, 26-28 October 2012)
As announced, this year, the annual conference of the PhD Network Indonesia will be held from Friday, 26.10.2012 (beginning 5pm) until Sunday, 28.10.2012 (ending ard 3pm) at the University of Göttingen.
The conference addresses first and foremost PhD candidates of all disciplines who are working on Indonesia and who are interested in discussing their dissertation projects amongst peers. Advanced master students who are considering a doctorate and post docs who have already finished theirs are very welcome as well. The aim of the conference is to present current dissertation projects in a relaxed atmosphere (everyone is invited to present, but nobody has to), and to discuss questions of content, methods and organization according to your particular needs. Unlike at most usual conferences, it is not important to represent yourself in front of established scholars but rather to mutually support each other on equal footing. No matter whether you just started to plan your project, are about to do fieldwork in Indonesia, are currently writing your thesis or even if you have already finished it – anything that is important to you can be presented to the conference's supportive audience and will certainly profit from its experiences and constructive spirit. In order to have sufficient time for comprehensive presentations as well as profound discussions, each participant will be given a time slot of 45 to 60min (depending on amount of presentations; max. 20 to 30min presentation, rest of time for discussion). Of course, it is also possible to only follow presentations and participate in discussions without giving a talk yourself. Apart from presentations and discussions that will take place during Saturday morning and afternoon as well as during Sunday morning, there will also be lots of opportunities for informal exchanges and getting to know each other. On the program will be frequent breaks between talks and discussions but also – for anyone interested – activities in the evenings. On Friday night, we will start with a movie screening and discussion (see program). Afterwards as well as on Saturday night we will have dinner (and drinks) together.
Since we do not receive any external funding for the conference, travel, accommodation, as well as meals have to be organized and financed by participants themselves. Göttingen offers a cosy hostel at a central location where several dorm beds are reserved for our conference's participants. In case you are interested in staying there, please contact them directly by the end of August (and refer to me or the conference). Detailed information about the hostel is available here: http://www.hostel37.de/ber-das-hostel/ber-das-hostel.php.
Moreover, you will be charged a small conference fee (ard 10€) that will be used to provide snacks and drinks during the day program and that has to be transferred in advance (you will be informed about details after registration).
For registration, please send an email to mrieger@gwdg.de by 15 September 2012 and let me know your full name, your discipline and your institutional affiliation as well as if you would like to participate the whole weekend (or only part-time) and whether you are interested to present your project – and in that case a (preliminary) title and your
presentation's language. General conference language will be German. If required, presentations can be given in English – in case of high interest in English language, we will also arrange general discussions accordingly.
