29 October 2018 - Lecture on “Coal, Palm Oil and Indigenous Rights in Kalimantan, Indonesia”.

The event will include two talks given by representatives of the Indonesian NGO, “WAHLI”. The screening of the short version of the documentary film “Asimetris” made by “Watchdoc” and an Introduction and discussion on sustainable palm oil seals hosted by “Watch Indonesia!”.

The event takes place on 29 October 2018 at 6pm in room 1009, KGI, University of Freiburg.

 

Program:

  • Coal Mining, environment and local communities in Central Kalimantan: Between hopes and reality (Luthfi Bakhiar – Friends of the Earth Indonesia (WALHI))
  • The palm oil boom in Central Kalimantan: Gender and conflicts on land (Meta Septalisa - Friends of the Earth Indonesia (WALHI))
  • Screening (of the short version) of the documentary film Asimetris (by Watchdoc)
  • Introduction and discussion on sustainable palm oil seals (Watch Indonesia!)

 

Presentations will be held in English, Indonesian, and German; questions can be asked in any of those languages and we are happy to provide a translation.

The event is organized by the University of Freiburg (Department of International Politics/ Southeast Asian Studies at Freiburg), the University of Passau, Stiftung Asienhaus, Watch Indonesia!, and sponsored by Stiftung Umverteilen.
