Colloquium Abstract:
Last year, Java saw a decline in its rice production of over 1.9 million tons. This is the largest decline in rice production in Java since 1986. The same problems of pest infestation that occurred in 1986 have returned in 2011. This paper looks at the problems involved in 1986 and 2011. Government policies successfully adopted to deal with these problems in 1986 have been undermined and this has created a major threat to Indonesia's food security.
