On 12 December 2014, a DAAD-sponsored delegation of Indonesian university and think tank scholars will visit the University of Freiburg. The FRIAS Research Focus program "Dynamic Alignments and Dealignments in Global Southeast" Asia provides the program for the delegation.

On 5 and 6 of December 2015, Markus Siewert and Jonas Buche from Goethe University Frankfurt (Political Science, Chair for Qualitative Empirical Research Prof. Wagemann) will hold a workshop on the method.

On 13 June 2014, Stefan Rother participated as a member of the academic advisory board at the EURA-NET Conference. The project is funded by the EU's 7th Framework Program for the period 2014-2017 under the title of "Transnational Migration in Transition: Transformative Characteristics of Temporary Mobility of People"

On Monday, 10 November 2014, Judith Schlehe will present her project she will be researching as a part of her Senior FRIAS Fellowship in the Research Focus "Dynamic Alignments and De-Alignments in Global Southeast Asia". The topic of her presentation is 'Strategic Non-Alignments of "Culture" and "Religion" in Contemporary Indonesia'
FRIAS Fellowships in the Winter and Summer Terms 2014/2015
In the upcoming Winter and Summer Terms, five internal as well as two external fellows will be hosted by the Freiburg Institute of Advanced Studies for one year. The fellowships are embedded in the FRIAS Research Focus "Dynamic Alignments and De-Alignments in Global Southeast Asia". The internal senior fellows are Prof. Jürgen Rüland, Prof. Judith Schlehe, Prof. Günther Schulze and Prof. Sabine Dabringhaus, the external junior fellows are Agus Suwignyo and Katja Rangsivek. Additionally, Stefan Rother has been awarded an internal junior fellowship.

This semester, the topic of the collaborative colloquia will be "Contentious Politics: Communism in Southeast Asia". The first session will take place next monday, 3 November, with a guest lecture by Patrick Hesse (History, Humboldt University Berlin).

On 16 October, Mirjam Lücking will hold a guest lecture with the title "Ideas of the 'Arab World' in Indonesia: Percpetions and Experience of Labor Migrants and Pilgrims". The lecture is part of Gadjah Mada University's FIB Weekly Forum

Teaching | Language Courses in Bahasa Indonesia and Thai in the winter term
The University of Freiburg offers two beginner courses in the winter term. Both an introductory course in Thai as well as advanced Bahasa Indonesia course will be taught. Bahasa Indonesia is taught at the Department of Social and Cultural Anthropology. Thai language courses are organized in cooperation with the Language Teaching Centre (Sprachlehrinstitut) of the University of Freiburg.
