Colloquium politicum | Federalism and Ethnic Conflict with Prof. Donald L. Horowitz
Federalism is usually seen as a way to mitigate ethnic discontent in divided societies by devolving power to relatively homogeneous units that can run their own affairs. In fact, it can perform many additional, generally unrecognized ameliorative functions in such societies.
From Tandem to Teamwork: A Training Model for Fieldresearch Across Cultural and Disciplinary Boundaries
From mid-June until mid-July 2017 ten teams of students from Anthropology and International Relations from universities in Freiburg, Yogyakarta and Makassar will collaborate in fieldwork training in Freiburg.

Regional Organizations in the Global South have increasingly become the focus of inquiries in the field of regionalism studies. Due to the intersections of disciplinary and area studies, research on regionalism in the Global South is characterized by a great diversity of theoretical and methodological approaches. The first CEDI Annual Conference on Regionalism in the Global South at the University of Mainz, from 10-11 November 2016, highlighted diversity and similarity in an emerging field of inquiry.
