The instructor is Sebastian Jäckle (Dpt. of Comparative Politics)

 

WHEN? (s.t.):

* Thursday 13:00-15:30, 16:00-18:30

* Friday: 9:00-12:00, 13:00-15:30, 16:00-18:30

* Saturday:  9:00-12:00, 13:00-16:00

 

WHERE?

The Workshop will take place at the Department of Comparative Politics (Werthmannstraße 12).

For some of the exercises we will use the PC-Lab there.

We would like to invite you to join us watching the World Cup Quarter Final (Germany-Argentina) on Saturday at 4pm in the "Wintergarten" at the Dpt. of Comparative Politics.

THURSDAY July 01

* Introduction – overview of the tool box

* Popper and the problem of induction, Weber and the problem of adequation

* Measurement and the construction of indices

* Descriptive statistics I  

> Exercise 1 (Human Development Index: calculation, descriptive statistics and critique)     

 

FRIDAY July 02

* Descriptive Statistics II

* Inferential statistics I

> Exercise  2 – simple measures of association with Excel Exercise  3 –

> data management, descriptive statistics and simple measures of

> association in SPSS

           

SATURDAY July 03

* Inferential Statistics II

* First insights into more advanced statistics

> Exercise 4 – Regression by hand 

> Regression Analysis in SPSS/STATA

> Exercise 5 – data management & regression in SPSS/STATA
