Antonio Farfán Vallespín, born in Barcelona (Spain) in 1975, studied Economics and Business Administration in the Autonomous University of Barcelona (UAB) and obtained his Diploma (Licenciatura) in 1999. He then worked for five years as a junior financial analyst in Barcelona. In 2005 he started a master's degree in Economics and Politics at the University of Freiburg. During his master's studies he taught several tutorials in Advanced Microeconomics and Advanced Macroeconomics for master's students and was active in the student association. Since then he has also been teaching an introductory block course on Mathematics for each new intake of master's students. After finishing his master's degree in 2007 he started a PhD at the University of Freiburg under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Schulze. The topic of his dissertation is “Governance and Decentralization in Developing Countries.” His research interests focus on the accountability and governance mechanisms that influence public service delivery in developing countries, particularly in Indonesia. His current work attempts to provide a theoretical foundation for the impact of decentralization on the degree of electoral control that voters exert on policymakers.
